VFX Coordinator

Secret Lab, Los Angeles, is looking for a VFX Coordinator.

Requirements include:

  • Previous experience as a VFX Production Coordinator
  • Highly organized, exceptional time/project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize conflicting tasks and juggle multiple projects
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work within a team atmosphere
  • In depth understanding of live-action and CG based VFX workflow
  • In depth understanding of common file formats and resolutions

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with VFX Producer and Supervisors to schedule, track and manage the workflow in order to meet deadlines
  • Organize dailies, rounds and meetings, taking notes and following up on information as necessary
  • Ensure production database is kept updated daily with notes and key information before departing for the day
  • Communicate any client sessions or meeting changes to the appropriate team member
  • Communicating information quickly and concisely to crew and other departments in person, not just via email
  • Maintain accurate summaries of progress from previous day’s work by artists
  • Anticipate and communicate issues to Producer and Supervisor to resolve problems promptly
  • Manage edits along with editorial department
  • Take responsibility for knowing details of schedule and advising production crew-members accordingly
  • Manage resources and communicate clearly within each department
  • Helping maintain a upbeat professional production office

Assistant VFX Editor

Secret Lab, Los Angeles, is looking for a Assistant VFX Editor

Requirements include:

  • Experience with Final Cut Pro
  • Good knowledge of file formats, useful software and IT skills
  • Experience with film and HD delivery formats
  • Good understanding of the postproduction process, editing procedures and video fundamentals
  • Interest with Quantel Pablo Digital Intermediate color correction system a bonus
  • Familiarity using Cinesync, Shotgun and Avid a bonus
  • We are a Linux based facility, so knowledge of Linux is required (tcsh, bash, python)
  • Must be extremely well organized, punctual and have a good attitude

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining sequence edits and inserting visual effect shots into the timeline
  • Ensuring the production database is maintained with accurate shot counts, reference QTs, network location of production media and lineup sheets
  • Preparing sequence edits for internal review and client approvals
  • Organizing and running the dailies shot review sessions and/or client reviews/cinesyncs
  • I/O duties; ftp and Aspera postings and downloads, QCing incoming reference QTs
  • Cutting final and technical breakdown reels for each show upon completion

Nuke Compositing Artist

Secret Lab, Los Angeles, is looking for experienced Nuke Compositing Artist, who are not only great at their craft, but are also capable of training, critiquing and mentoring other artists.

Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of Nuke
  • Expert knowledge of 3D Principles and Techniques in Nuke
  • Experience with Linux, Photoshop, Mocha, Boujou, PFTrack, Syntheyes is desirable
  • Must be able to learn and effectively use proprietary tools and pipeline
  • Must have an excellent artistic eye
  • Ability to break a complex task into simpler subtasks
  • Team player with strong communication skills desired

VFX Pipeline Engineer

The VFX Pipeline Engineer is responsible for pipeline tools creation and providing software solutions to support production and artists.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Scripted Tool Development, Customization and Support
  • Creation and maintenance of new scripted tools that support production needs
  • Integration of scripted tools with existing in-house tools and code base.
  • Creation of documentation and tutorials for tools and integrations.
  • Customization of existing scripted tools to suit the needs of the studio, projects, and artists.
  • Provide help desk assistance to production for scripted tools.
  • Uphold quality standards and vision set forth by Creative Supervisors.

Pipeline Workflows and Collaboration:

  • Work with artists, leads, and supervisors to understand day to day production workflow needs
  • Collaborate with the artists and TDs to map out and optimize common workflows and tool integration.
  • Research and recommend improvements to existing workflows or new workflows that will improve productivity or communication.

Skills Required:

  • Competent in Python and familiarity with other scripting languages used in production.
  • Extensive knowledge of film visual effects production workflows.
  • Knowledge of film/video post production techniques, software, hardware and workflows. Must be able to prioritize requests and have effective communications skills.
  • Detail oriented with a strong ability to multi-task
  • Knowledge of : Unix / Linux.
  • Object Oriented Programming
  • Familiarity with Databases
  • Familiarity with Network Render Queuing systems.
  • General understanding of networking and performance issues that arise with automated tools.

3D Maya Generalist

Secret Lab, Los Angeles, is looking for an experienced 3D Maya Generalist.

Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of Maya
  • All aspects of 3D, e.g. modeling, animation, tracking, shading etc.
  • Mel scripting and Solid Angle Arnold, Mental Ray, or Mantra experience a plus
  • A strong background in computer programming in Python, C or C++ is a plus
  • Linux experience is a plus

Houdini FX Developer

Secret Lab, Los Angeles, is looking for experienced Houdini FX Developers, who are not only great at their craft, but are also capable of training, critiquing, and mentoring other artists.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Light and render FX passes for specific shots using developed FX rigs
  • Develop rigs/techniques to implement and optimize approved looks
  • Produce look tests based on provided reference materials
  • Creation of tools and scripts to facilitate workflow

QUALIFICATIONS:

Artist should be familiar with more than one of the following applications:

  • Houdini
  • Maya
  • Expert experience using Houdini's flip solver
  • Python scripting experience is a plus
  • Understanding multi pass 3D compositing is a plus
  • Artists must be able to take direction and work in a team focused environment, good communication skills are a must
  • Strong time management skills and extremely organized.
  • Solid work ethic and a positive attitude in the face of challenging situations.
